May 2020 Wrap Up

Hey y'all! Welcome back! Hope you are having an amazing start of the week. June is here, which means we are having the longest day of the year this month! Even though COVID is still present in our lives, it is still nice to see summer and the sunshine coming along.

May has been a super busy month for me reading wise. According to my Goodreads stats, I have read eight books, but honestly, majority of the them have been easy reads. For example, poetry collections and self-help.

Also, in March, I started reading the Harry Potter series for the first time in my life. I know, it just took me 24 years to dive into, but as I child I was really intimidated by their size. I will be writing a post on my experience and how much I love this series now. I'm currently reading the Deathly Hallows and I'm a little upset... I'm not ready to say good-bye to Harry and the gang.

Without further ado here are the books I have read in May:

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by JK Rowling

Okay y'all, this is the first book that has made me cry. Like I mean balling. I never had a book that brought me to tears, like yes I've teared up, but never cried before.

I really loved this book, despise it losing it's cheerful tone the previous books had. Rowling did an amazing job with Harry during this book. At 15, I'm pretty sure all of us can relate that we thought we knew what was best and rebel against anyone who said otherwise.

I'm not sure if I should go more into details, but ya I really liked this book. There were some parts that I thought were slow, but it didn't affect the story/my enjoyment.

Oh, yes, Umbridge. I know she is the most hated person in the Wizarding World, but honestly I didn't hate her. Did I find her annoying? Yes. She just seemed to me like an inconvenience more than anything, nothing threatening at all. She is literally nothing is she didn't have the Ministry backing her up.

My Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Falling Toward the Moon by Robert M Drake & rh Sin

Really enjoyed Drake's half of the collection. I thought there were some pieces in there that went beyond just the love life.

As you guys know, Sin is one of my favorite poets, but his half wasn't as fun. There were some poems he wrote to honor his wife. I do think it's cute, but as a reader I couldn't connect. It seemed like it was writing that only they knew the meaning of. Other than that, there was nothing new in this collection that he hasn't written about before.

My Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by JK Rowling

Again, this book was amazing! I just love seeing Dumbledore's relationship with Harry further deepen. Also the love interests are starting to form and they are just so adorable. As we know, Ron and Hermoine end up together, but honestly I see Hermoine having more of a connection with Harry. It's just seems she is more affectionate towards Harry, than with Ron, but then again it could be the nerves, but Hermoine never came across as being shy around a crush.

Again, I don't know how much to say about this, but I just loved it.

Break Your Glass Slippers by Amanda Lovelace

OMG! You guys! This is my favorite poetry collection of all time. It's just what I need. Before the toxic boy came into my life, I've always had the idea of having a fairy tale love life with a happy ending. Never in my life did I imagine there was guys out there that are unkind and would take advantage of you. I've always had the idea once I meet the one they were going to be my prince charming. Boy was I wrong. Lovelace wrote this collection about growing up to fairy tales and coming to realize that they are false. This collection is about finding yourself and realizing that you don't need a prince for a happy ending. Your happy ending starts the moment you start believing and loving yourself. It was just amazing!

Toxic Magnetism: How and Why Empaths Attract Narcissits by Kara Lawrence

Okay y'all, I'm the type of person who needs answers on why things happen the way they did. I'm always trying to improve the person that I am, so if I do something wrong, I want to fix it. A few months ago, before the news, I came to the conclusion that no matter how much I cared for this guy, he was never going to care the same way. He was just using me. I did try to break it off, but he just had a way with words that I couldn't stop communication. I should also mention this thing has been going on for about 5 years and it was just hard for me to leave sooner. The first 2 years of that "relationship" I really did "love him." The other years I was just confused, scared, and didn't know what to do.

This book really helped me comprehend myself and him. I'm really grateful I stumbled across this book. It definitely helped me and put things into perspective and now I know what to look out for, so I don't land myself into the same situation again.

As Old as Time by Liz Braswell

This was an amazing comfort read. You may know that I am obsessed with Beauty and the Beast. Not ready to read the final Harry Potter book, I decided to read the twisted tale of my beloved childhood movie.

Overall, it was an average read, but once you get into part three, omg you will not be disappointed! When reading, I figured out the major twist, but still it was something I couldn't have imagined happening in the Disney movie. Plus, Belle having a mother in the picture makes things interesting to say the least. If you love Beauty and the Beast or even Disney, I would give this a shot.

A Crowded Loneliness by rh Sin

I was on Sin's Instagram page and he posted a few poems that I related to during the difficult time. He then mention this collection of poems and I was like okay why not.

Overall, it was good. I did connect with this collection. There were some mentions of the coronavirus and how you may feel during this time. Definitely recommend if you are looking for that type of connection. Personally, I didn't connect with those. Before corona, I've always been the homebody type and from that aspect, I'm fine. I've just been struggling more with personal issues.

Quiet Girl in a Noisy World: A Introvert's Story by Debbie Tung

If you read my last post, then you may know how excited I was to read this one. It did not disappoint guys! It was like this book was made for me. There were a couple of things that I was like, not me. For example, I loved working in the office and I can't wait for the day I get married. I mean, I don't want a big wedding, but is one of the things that I can't wait for.

Also, I loved that we have the same personality, INFJ. It just made me connect and relate even more. If you are an introvert or have an introvert in your life, please read this. Sometimes we suck at explain the way we feel, just because we don't want to burden you with our worries or feel like you wouldn't understand. This book gives you perspective on what is like to be an introvert, while being lighthearted. Can't wait to read Tung's latest comic!

My Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Despise everything that went on with me and everything that is going around in the world, I'm so grateful for my optimism and ability to always look at the silver lining of things. I am also grateful for my best friend Elly, for always being there for me, listening to me rant and cry, and just overall being the best friend I could ever ask for. Thank you💖

Hope you are all staying safe and let me know what you have been reading. I would love to chat with you guys! Have a great day/night!

Talk to you soon!
