My Favorites: Poetry Edition
Hey Y'all! How are ya! Hope you are having a fantastic day. Before I get started talking about my poetry favorites, I do feel like I should warn you... all of my poetry favorites are modern. Meaning my favorite poetry is what some of you call "Instagram Poetry." I remember reading poetry when I was in elementary school and hating it. I didn't understand why we needed to dissect every line and growing up I thought in order for it to be poetry it has to rhyme.
My mind was blown when I stumbled upon r.h. Sin on Instagram. About two or three years ago, I put myself in a toxic "relationship." I was so determined to make it work even though, the guy could care less than two fucks about me. Sin's work really helped me during this time of my life and still do to this day. Even though his work is pretty straightforward, I like the simplicity of his poems.
This kind of sets the tone of my favorites, so if this isn't your taste, then I wouldn't recommend reading. But do please let me know what your poetry favorites are. I would love to expand my horizons, so just leave your suggestions in the comments below.

Let's start off by my favorite r.h. Sin book of all time and that is "Planting Gardens in Graves." Without exposing to much about my "relationship," I often feel like I was too emotional. That I was crazy. I felt like I was never good enough for him. In this book Sin reminds me of who I am, that I deserve better, and that he was just not man. A man, doesn't treat a woman like that. At the time, is what exactly what I needed. Looking at it now, I was just holding these expectations on someone who would never meet them, but my stubborn butt didn't realize it then. I don't hold nothing against him, since I know I am also to fault here.
too.
you are not too emotional
being able to feel things
with your heart
is not handicap
it's not a burden

Next we have ATTICUS. Oh ATTICUS, how much I love your work. I discovered ATTICUS last year while I was browsing around Barnes and Noble. I think I was looking for another Sin book to add to my collection, but then I saw "Love Her Wild" and omg you guys, that book is beautiful. That book is just an experience. Besides the poems of love, being young, and travel, there are pictures throughout that book and it is just amazing. While I have never been in love, this book makes me feel all the feels and it is just beautiful. This is book you will definitely want on your coffee table.

Also by ATTICUS, "The Dark Between Stars" was also good! The collection of poems in this book is exactly where I am in life. I loved both books just the same, but Dark is just a tad better. I do own his third collection "The Truth about Magic" I just haven't read it yet. They all keep the same theme of beautiful pictures through the book, so they are just excellent to have.

Finally, my most recent favorite is "milk and honey" by rupi kaur. This book was recommended and gifted by my best friend, Elly and I am so glad she did! I knew this was one of her favorites books of all time, but I just never gave it a shot. At the time I thought Sin was the only one who understood and didn't want to give a shot to anyone else. Now that I am more open-minded, this book was amazing! There were topics on here that made me feel more connected to Kaur than I ever felt with Sin. Kaur touches on topics of femininity, love, and what women often feel when they are not loved correctly. I have read Amanda Lovelace and Bridgett Devoue before, but I didn't feel as connected as I did with Kaur. Now I understand why people love her so much.

Hope you guys enjoyed learning a little bit more about me. I didn't realize how much my taste in poetry comes from that one "relationship" until writing this post. I promise February is going to be a little bit more light-hearted 😊
Talk to you soon!
