Books I Cannot Wait For: Winter Releases

Hey Y'all! Welcome back! How are you doing? Omg! January has been really good month for me reading wise. I have accomplished reading six books this month and I am extremely proud of myself. But honestly, I can't concentrate on the stories that I am currently reading because I am too hype about the new releases that are coming out this year. January, February, and March have many good books coming out that I feel 2020 is going to be a bomb year for the reading community!

In this post, I am going to talk about what releases got me hyped and I will also link them below! I am going to included January, since there was so many good books that came out that they deserve the shout out.

Disclaimer: I do not own these pictures. I've got them directly off the Amazon web page.

January Releases

Followers: A Novel by [Angelo, Megan]

Followers by Megan Angelo
Release Date: January 14th, 2020

If you are into social media, this is the book for you. This book follows the lives of Orla, Floss, and Marlow. Orla and Floss want to be successful. Orla wants success in the literary community, while Floss wants to become famous. Floss comes up with an idea to take over social media and fake it until they make it kind of thing. Fast forward 35 years later, Marlow is a social media queen, but is under control of the government. Social media has become so demanding, that social media stars have no privacy and who knows if what they post is real. Marlow wants out, but with having her life monitor 24/7, Marlow is going to risk it all no matter the cost.

This book focuses the good in the bad of social media and what could happen if we continue the path we are on. Honestly, the synopsis of this better explained on Amazon, but I did my best. I'm not into dystopian novels that much, but when it is this close to real life then I'm into giving it a try.

American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins
Release Date: January 21st, 2020

This book follows the life of Lydia Quixano PĂ©rez along with her eight year old son, Luca, and her journalist husband (I couldn't find his name anywhere). Lydia runs a bookstore in Acapulco, Mexico and life couldn't be any better for Lydia. It wasn't until one day, Lydia's husband published his tell all story on one of the biggest drug lords in the area causing Lydia and her son to flee to the US. Once in the US, Lydia notices that people are not quite at peace and discovers what life is truly like in America.

I need to purchase this book ASAP! This book, even though I have not read it, hits close to home. I come from Mexican Immigrant family and I know this is a reality that many face. What I am curious is that the author, is not from a Mexican background. It does not bother me at all, but it interests me on how she will tell her story. I can wait to see Cummins perspective. I am impressed that Barnes and Noble and Oprah both chose it for their book clubs. I'm curious to go to that BN event, but first let me get my hands on this book.

February Releases

Straight on Till Morning by Liz Braswell
Release Date: February 4th, 2020

Okay, I may or may not have mentioned that I am a HUGE Disney fan! Thanks on my discovery of the Twisted Tales series... I NEED THEM ALL. The series contains nine books, so this is book 8. Book 9 will come out in the beginning of April and it is the twisted tale for Cinderella.

I think these are pretty self-explanatory since what catches your interest are the questions on the cover. I haven't seen Peter Pan since I was a child, so I can't elaborate much, but I will definitely see the movie before I dive into this book. As a Disney fan, it is my duty to collect all of these books even though they might not be in my top favorites.

Saint X by Alexis Schaitkin
Release Date: February 18th, 2020

For my True Crime peeps, this one is for you. "Saint X" by Alexis Schaitkin is about about a family who travels to the Caribbean for a family vacation. Alison is murder in this vacation leaving behind a younger sister named Claire. There was an arrest for Alison's murder, but the suspects we let go due to lack evidence... does this sound familiar to anyone? Fast forward many years later, Claire lives in New York City and comes in contact with Clive Richardson who... was one of the suspects in Alison's murder. Claire is determine to get answers on what happened to her sister and will not rest until she gets answers.

Honestly, this book just reminded me of the Natalee Holloway case. I know we don't know what happened to Holloway and her body is still missing, but I always find it interesting when a book reminds me of a case. I just feel like maybe, the work of fiction, could lead us some where but, that's wishful thinking.

An example I have is "The Couple Next Door" by Shari Lapena. The moment they said that the baby was snatched up from the crib, I instantly thought of Madeleine McCann. I was secretly thinking umm this could be something. That book was good, so I'm hoping "Saint X" will have the same type of thrill.

Follow Me by Kathleen Barber
Release Date: February 25th, 2020

If you love "You" by Caroline Kepnes, "Follow Me" by Kathleen Barber is right up your alley. This book follows the life of Audrey Miller. Audrey has a fantastic life and a strong social media following. She has just moved to Washington DC and has an amazing job working at the Smithsonian. She has a couple of problems like a creepy neighbor and a faulty lock, but not anything she can't handle. To her luck Audrey has a faithful follower that has been following her every trail, from her blog to her Instagram, he knows what is happening in every part of her life. Following her in social media, is not enough anymore, so he going to insert himself into Audrey life not matter what it takes.

Ahh this book! I can't wait to read this. This book is just an example to be careful on what you post online! You never know who is watching/following your every moment.

Side Note: I haven't read or seen "You" so all I have to based it on is that the guy is to obsessed with the girl. Which in a way it resembles this. I will keep you guys posted on my thoughts once I read both of them.

March Releases

In Five Years: A Novel by [Serle, Rebecca]

In Five Years by Rebecca Serle
Release Date: March 10th, 2020

You know the question... "Where do you see yourself in five years?" This is the exact question lawyer Dannie Cohan is asked in the most important job interview of her life. Dannie is your typical Type-A type a gal. Always has a plan in place and knows exactly what she wants in life. She lands her dream job and her boyfriend proposes so Dannie's five year plan is coming along perfectly. She falls asleep so merrily that she dreams of the year 2025, but wait everything is out of place. What is happening? Dannie does not recognize anything and before she has time to process anything she wakes up and its 2020 again. Dannie goes about her life as she planned, but that dream comes to haunt her four and half years later. What is really a dream or...

OOO MMM GGG you guys!!! This is the most anticipated book I am waiting for!! Back when I was 18-20 I had a timeline for myself. I was Dannie. I wanted my life to run exactly how I imagined it to be. Get my career once I graduated, start dating when I turned 22, so by 25 I could become engaged and start having kids at 32. I just want to read this and see how, yes everything you wanted you got, but look there is always something better and you don't know unless you open yourself to the opportunity. This book is just a great reminder while plans are great, just a live a little. Life is full of surprises that they are better than your five year plan.

Darling Rose Gold by Stephanie Wrobel
Release Date: March 17th, 2020

If you are familiar with the Gypsy Rose case, this book might intrigue you. Rose Gold believed that she was ill, terribly ill. She thought she was allergic to everything and spent most of her time in the hospital. Everyone in her community contributed to help in any way they could to help Rose Gold, but they never knew exactly what was wrong. Her mother, Patty, made her to believe she was ill, but she wasn't. Eventually Rose Gold figures this out and her mother spends five years in jail because of it. After Patty serves her time, Rose Gold takes her in to everyone's surprised. They say all is forgiven, but is it really though?

Honestly, I'm just reading this book because it reminds me so much of the Gypsy Rose case. This could be like an alternative universe kind of thing and maybe this is what the outcome was instead of Gypsy killing her own mother.

Let me know what books you guys are excited about that are coming in 2020. Let's just make our TBR list even longer than it currently is.

Talk to you soon!
Marina
